民间习俗上，如果遇到本命年，就是所谓的犯太岁，如要化解则必须到庙中点一盏光明灯，一般时间为一年。
灯，是光明的意思，是智慧和力量的显示，殊胜缘起功徳，从而引发燃点自我心灯的光明，并可灯灯传燃，明照十方法界。
点灯是寓意摧芸芸众生种种之烦恼、破人世种种之阴暗。照耀无极。
